For those establishing a fund or setting up donations as a memorial to a recently deceased loved one, our process takes approximately an hour, deferring major decisions for a later time.
Use our easy giving portal to choose a fund that matches their interests. When you make a donation, you’re able to specify that you are giving in memory of a person. We’ll make sure the family is notified if you wish.
This is a quick and easy process that can begin with a phone call. Often family members request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a cause their loved one was passionate about during their lifetime. We accept memorial donations and can notify the appropriate family member if this is desired. Note that we only accept instructions from a designated family representative.
We suggest using the following language in the obituary: “In lieu of flowers, please remember [name] with a memorial contribution to [name of fund] at The Community Foundation of Harrisonburg and Rockingham. Visit www.tcfhr.org or mail checks to PO Box 1068, Harrisonburg, VA, 22803.”
A memorial fund can be named after your loved one or given another name. Talk with us to discuss giving goals and we’ll recommend a certain type of fund. Many of our scholarship funds honor family members and their professions, academic interests, or particular life circumstances. You can be as involved as you would like in the selection process.
